Beeple's Viral Installation at Art Basel Miami Beach

Digital artist Mike Winkelmann, widely recognized as Beeple, has garnered significant attention with his newest installation at Art Basel Miami Beach.

This project, titled “Regular Animals,” showcases robotic canines valued at $100,000 each.

Hyper-Realistic Robotic Dogs

These robots are uniquely designed with incredibly lifelike heads modeled after prominent figures.

  • Elon Musk
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Jeff Bezos
  • Artistic icons Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol

The robotic dogs are contained within a plexiglass enclosure and equipped with chest-mounted cameras.

AI-Powered Image Creation and "Excrement Sample" NFTs

Captured images are processed using AI, resulting in prints that are playfully referred to as being "pooped out."

A total of 256 of these prints feature embedded QR codes, granting collectors access to a complimentary NFT.

These NFTs are distributed in packaging labeled “Excrement Sample,” adding to the project’s unconventional nature.

Beeple's Self-Portrait and Project Reception

Beeple boldly included a robotic representation of himself within this exclusive collection, a decision he described as audacious.

Remarkably, the self-portrait dog was the first to be sold, even exceeding Beeple’s own expectations.

A Recurring Role as a Central Figure in the Art World

This installation represents at least the second instance of Winkelmann achieving prominence within the art community.

In 2021, his digital collage was auctioned at Christie’s for $69 million, significantly contributing to the surge in NFT popularity.

This boom reached its peak a year later before experiencing a substantial decline.
