Joby Aviation Expands Pilot Training Facility for Air Taxis

Joby Aviation Expands Manufacturing Capabilities

Joby Aviation has significantly increased the scale of its pilot manufacturing plant located in Marina, California, effectively doubling both its size and production potential. This expansion is a key step in the company’s efforts to bring eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles) to market by early next year.

Increased Production Capacity

The expanded facility now encompasses 435,500 square feet. Joby anticipates an annual production rate of 24 aircraft. Once fully optimized, the facility is projected to yield almost one aircraft every other week.

Beyond manufacturing, the site will also be crucial for securing federal certification. It will support comprehensive ground and flight testing procedures, as well as pilot training programs and ongoing aircraft maintenance operations.

Future Expansion and Investor Support

Further details regarding Joby’s projected timeline for reaching full production capacity have been requested. Updates on the development of its first large-scale facility in Dayton, Ohio, are also being sought.

The Dayton facility, when completed, is slated to have an annual production capacity of up to 500 aircraft.

Joby is leveraging the expertise of engineers from its investor, Toyota, in the construction of both manufacturing locations. Toyota recently completed the initial $250 million installment of a previously announced $500 million investment in Joby.

Fleet Expansion and Certification

This announcement coincides with the addition of a sixth aircraft to Joby’s operational fleet. Notably, this latest aircraft achieved airworthiness certification just one week after its completion.

Commercialization Plans

Joby became a publicly traded company through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merger in 2021. The company’s initial commercial launch is planned for Dubai in early 2026.

Following the Dubai launch, Joby intends to expand its commercial operations to a city within the United States.
