Google Workspace Leader Javier Soltero to Speak at TC Sessions: SaaS

Among large-scale SaaS products, Google Workspace – previously known as GSuite – stands as a prominent example. Consequently, Javier Soltero of Google was among the first individuals we invited to present at our SaaS conference on October 27th.

Soltero's Role and Workspace's Growth

Currently, Soltero serves as Google’s VP and GM overseeing Workspace, a platform utilized by over 2 billion users globally. The suite encompasses essential tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat, and Drive.

Workspace is undergoing a significant period of evolution, introducing enhanced collaboration features and, notably, a new paid plan designed for individual users. These developments are occurring within the context of the pandemic, which dramatically increased the importance of remote collaboration and video conferencing solutions like Meet.

A Career Spanning Industry Leaders

Soltero’s professional journey extends beyond his current role. He began his career as a software engineer at Netscape in the late 1990s.

Following several engineering positions, he co-founded Hyperic in 2004, a monitoring service that later merged with SpringSource. This ultimately led to his acquisition by VMware, where he served as CTO for SaaS and Application Services.

From Acompli to Microsoft and Google

His startup Acompli, a mobile-focused email application founded in 2013, is perhaps his most recognizable venture. Microsoft acquired Acompli in late 2014, transforming it into Outlook Mobile.

At Microsoft, Soltero advanced to the position of Corporate VP for the Office group and Cortana. He then joined Google in 2019, becoming the public representative for GSuite/Workspace.
