iRobot Roomba i7+ Docking Station Warning - Potential Short Circuit

Leading robotics company iRobot has recently issued safety alerts to a specific group of Roomba i7+ owners, indicating a possible malfunction and electrical short circuit within the Clean Base docking station. iRobot reports that the issue arises from infrequent instances where liquids are introduced into the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal system.
“We have identified that a limited number of Roomba i7+ Clean Base docking stations may experience a failure and potentially create a safety risk if liquids are gathered by the Roomba i7+ robotic vacuum and then transferred into the Clean Base,” explained iRobot in a communication to TechCrunch. “These devices are engineered solely for the removal of dry dirt and particles from flooring and carpeting and are not intended for use with liquids under any circumstances.”
The company estimates that approximately 222,000 units could be affected by this concern. A significant portion of these potentially impacted devices – roughly 210,000 – were distributed within North America. Affected users are being notified through email and in-app messages. iRobot plans to provide a replacement power cord or complete docking station to owners with qualifying serial numbers.
The i7+ model was initially launched in 2018. This system features notable improvements in mapping technology, alongside the Clean Base functionality, which automatically empties the Roomba’s dustbin.
