iPhone 17 Air: Expected to Go eSIM Only Globally

Apple Unveils iPhone 17 Air with eSIM-Only Design
On Tuesday, Apple revealed its latest innovation, the remarkably slim iPhone 17 Air, during its yearly hardware presentation.
According to the company, this new model will exclusively support eSIM technology globally.
A Thinner Profile, A Significant Change
Despite achieving a remarkably thin profile of just 5.5 mm, Apple has made the decision to remove the physical SIM card tray.
This allows for more internal space and a sleeker design, though it represents a shift in how users connect to cellular networks.
The Transition to eSIM
Apple initially began phasing out physical SIM cards in favor of eSIMs for iPhones sold within the United States in 2022.
This move signaled the company’s commitment to the digital SIM standard.
Apple’s Rationale for eSIM Adoption
During the keynote address, Apple explained the benefits driving this change.
“Years ago, we were the first to introduce eSIM technology, and it has since become an industry standard,” a company representative stated.
“Compared to traditional SIM cards – a technology that is decades old – eSIMs offer enhanced usability, improved security features, and conserve valuable space within the iPhone.
Furthermore, eSIM technology is particularly advantageous for travelers.”
