Instagram Grid Rearrangement: Finally Here!

Instagram Updates: Grid Rearrangement, Quiet Posting, and More
On Thursday, Instagram revealed several new features. These include the long-awaited ability for users to customize their profile grid layout. Testing is also underway for a feature enabling discreet posting, bypassing the usual feed display.
Customizable Grid Layouts
Instagram confirmed that rearranging posts on a profile grid has been a highly requested feature. This update empowers users to personalize the visual arrangement of their content. Previously, posts appeared strictly in chronological order, with pinning as the sole method for maintaining content visibility at the top.
The primary goal of this functionality is to allow users greater control over their profile's aesthetic. It provides a means to emphasize specific posts or create a more visually appealing grid design.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, previously indicated in January that the company was actively working towards implementing this feature.
Development of this feature was initially observed in 2022, but its release was postponed. Now, in 2025, Instagram is preparing to launch the update in the near future.
Quiet Posting Feature
Instagram is currently testing a feature that allows users to post content without it immediately appearing in their followers’ feeds. A wider rollout of this feature is planned shortly.
Mosseri explained in a blog post that the act of posting to a feed can be daunting for some. This new feature aims to alleviate that pressure, making content sharing more accessible.
This functionality is likely to appeal more to users prioritizing profile development over immediate engagement. It may not be as attractive to those seeking high levels of likes and comments, such as established creators and celebrities.
This feature shares similarities with “trial reels,” which allow creators to test content without public visibility. Instagram reported that 40% of creators increased their Reel posting frequency after utilizing trial reels. Furthermore, 80% of those creators experienced increased reach to non-followers.
Mosseri stated that these new features are designed to provide users with “added flexibility” regarding content visibility. They also aim to encourage creation and sharing without undue pressure.
Spotify Integration and Creator Support
A new integration with Spotify enables users to share the songs they are currently listening to directly to their Instagram Notes. This allows followers to discover and explore the user’s musical tastes.
Instagram also announced the launch of “Drafts,” an initiative focused on investing in emerging creators. Through Drafts, Instagram will collaborate with creators, offering support that may include financial assistance, networking opportunities, collaborative projects, and more.
According to an Instagram spokesperson, Drafts is not a traditional creator fund. Instead, Instagram will work closely with creators to provide tailored support based on their individual project needs.
