Instagram Experiments with a New Reshare Feature for Stories
Instagram is currently evaluating a novel test feature designed to modify how users redistribute content they enjoy to their Stories.
This test, initially available to a limited group of users, introduces a curated collection of recently viewed content within the Stories area of the application.
Reshare Sticker Functionality
Users will now have access to a new reshare sticker, located in the sticker tray during Story creation. This sticker aggregates posts and Reels viewed within the past hour, as well as recently published content.
According to an Instagram spokesperson, the platform recognizes that reshared content can sometimes lack the engagement, personalization, and enjoyment of original posts.
The intention behind this test is to promote more thoughtful and deliberate sharing of content that genuinely resonates with users.
Enhanced Story Presentation
Content reshared via this sticker will be integrated into the background of an existing Story.
This approach aims to foster greater personalization compared to the current method, where reshared posts typically appear in isolation against a plain backdrop.
The new sticker provides a means to contextualize reshared content, making it feel less static – similar to adding commentary when retweeting, rather than simply sharing a post.
Potential Benefits and Future Considerations
While there’s no guarantee this test will be implemented across the entire app, Instagram will analyze user feedback to assess its impact on the quality of reshared posts.
Allowing users to review viewed content before sharing could potentially increase the frequency of Story resharing, or at least encourage more considered selections.
