Instagram 'Add Yours' Sticker: Create Interactive Story Threads

Instagram Launches “Add Yours” Sticker for Public Story Threads

Instagram has revealed a new feature today: the “Add Yours” sticker. This sticker facilitates the creation of public threads directly within Instagram Stories.

How the “Add Yours” Sticker Works

Essentially, this new functionality enables users to respond to existing Stories with their own contributions, based on a given prompt or theme. The feature is now available globally, following initial testing phases in Indonesia and Japan last month.

The interactive sticker initiates a chain of content. Each user can then contribute their own Story to the ongoing thread.

Creating and Joining Threads

For example, a user might share a Story showcasing their “Outfit of the Day” and then invite followers to participate by adding their own outfits via the sticker.

According to Instagram, users can “share the sticker and see who responds to it in their own Stories” through customized prompts and public replies.

Accessing the feature is straightforward. Select the sticker tool from the top navigation bar while creating or uploading to your Story. Then, choose the “Add Yours” sticker to begin a new public thread.

Alternatively, you can join an existing thread by clicking on an “Add Yours” sticker and adding your own Story to the chain.

Discovery and Collaboration

While designed to encourage user collaboration, the feature also presents an opportunity for discovering new accounts to follow.

Clicking on the sticker within a Story reveals all participants in the thread, allowing you to view their individual Stories.

Comparison to TikTok’s Duet Feature

The “Add Yours” sticker shares some similarities with TikTok’s “duet” feature, which allows users to create content alongside an original video.

However, a key difference exists. Instagram’s feature consolidates all contributions within a single, easily accessible chain. Currently, TikTok does not offer a similar centralized view of all videos created from an original TikTok.

Recent Feature Rollouts

This launch follows Instagram’s recent decision to make the Link sticker available to all users in Stories. Previously, this functionality was restricted to businesses and verified creators.

The wider availability of both the “Add Yours” sticker and the Link sticker aims to foster collaboration and shared interests among users, as Instagram continues to compete within the social media landscape.
