Instagram Guides Now Available to All Users - New Search Updates

Instagram introduced a new functionality earlier in the year known as “Guides,” enabling content creators to distribute advice, resources, and more extensive content through a specialized section on their profiles. Initially, Instagram restricted access to Guides to a limited number of creators concentrating on topics related to mental health and wellness. The company announced today that it is extending the availability of this format to all users and broadening Guides to encompass additional content categories, including Products, Places, and Posts.
TechCrunch reported in August that an extension of Instagram Guides was under development, with an emphasis on enabling users to construct travel guides and product recommendation guides, alongside a more general “posts” option.
This “Guides” format was created to provide Instagram creators and marketers with a method for sharing in-depth content on a social media platform that had previously prioritized visual media—such as photographs and videos. In contrast, an Instagram Guide can resemble a blog article, incorporating text alongside photos, image collections, and videos to support the discussed topic.
This feature has the potential to increase the amount of time users spend within the application, as users will no longer need to navigate to external websites and blogs to access this type of content—for example, through a link in the creator’s profile or within their Stories.
With the addition of support for Products, Places, and Posts, Instagram’s Guides now have a wider scope. Instagram also states that it has simplified the feature’s usability. The company also mentioned that Product Guides may be showcased within its new shopping area on the platform, Instagram Shop.
Those viewing Guides can distribute them through their own Stories and via Direct Messages, further increasing their visibility.
A new update to Instagram Search is also being released today. Previously, users could search by names, usernames, hashtags, and locations. With the changes being implemented today, users can now also utilize keywords to find content that aligns with their interests. Alongside Guides, the overarching objective is to encourage Instagram users to remain within the application.Instagram confirms that the search update is available in English to all users in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, beginning today. The expansion of Guides is currently being rolled out to all users.
