in&motion Secures $12 Million for Wearable Airbag Technology

The French company In&motion has secured $12 million in funding (€10 million) in a funding round spearheaded by Upfront Ventures, with additional investment from 360 Capital. The company is dedicated to the development of wearable airbag technology designed for motorcycle riders.
The airbag system is built into a vest and operates independently, capable of identifying collisions within 60 milliseconds. In&motion has developed a component known as the In&box, which continuously monitors rider movements. Utilizing a variety of sensors, this device assesses when airbag deployment is necessary.
In&motion has created distinct profiles tailored to various riding activities. For example, a rider on a MotoGP circuit will likely experience higher speeds and more frequent directional changes. Users can select from profiles designed for standard motorcycle riding, track use, and off-road adventures.
The adoption of airbag systems is growing among professional motorcycle racers. Beyond MotoGP, competitors in the 2021 Dakar Rallye were required to utilize airbag protection.
In&motion employs a unique distribution strategy, opting to collaborate with established motorcycle manufacturers to integrate the system into their vests rather than selling directly to consumers. This approach allows In&motion to avoid the complexities of establishing a new reseller network. To date, the company has distributed tens of thousands of these systems.
The offering includes a subscription service, providing an unlimited warranty and the option to upgrade the In&box device to the latest model after a three-year period.
The newly acquired funding will enable the company to broaden its reach beyond France, with initial expansion efforts focused on Germany and the United States. In&motion also intends to increase its workforce by doubling its current team size.
