icims acquires video recruiting startup altru for $60m

iCIMS, a leading enterprise recruiting firm, has revealed its acquisition of Altru.
iCIMS has not disclosed the financial details of the transaction; however, an informed source indicated the deal’s value is approximately $60 million, consisting of both cash and company stock.
Established in the year 2000, iCIMS provides a “talent cloud” platform utilized by over 4,000 organizations to attract, connect with, and onboard new hires, as well as support the professional growth of their current workforce.
Steve Lucas, who assumed the role of CEO in February after previously leading Marketo, believes the recruitment sector is ready for significant innovation. He noted that businesses universally prioritize securing top talent, prompting him to question, “If that’s the case, why are job postings often so uninspired? Why transform an inherently exciting opportunity into a dull job description?”
Lucas identifies video as a crucial element in modernizing the process, enabling companies to inject greater “authenticity” into what can often be a rigid and formal procedure. Just over a month prior, iCIMS announced the acquisition of Easyrecrue, another company focused on this area.
Lucas explained that while Easyrecrue specializes in enhancing video interviews, Altru’s strengths lie in the earlier stages of recruitment – maintaining engagement with highly qualified candidates and generating enthusiasm for potential positions.
Alykhan Rehmatullah, CEO of Altru (who co-founded the company with CTO Vincent Polidoro – both are pictured above), shared that while Altru initially focused on employee videos for recruitment, its asynchronous video capabilities are now being adopted more widely within organizations. He pointed out this trend is particularly noticeable with remote teams seeking communication methods that are more expressive than instant messaging and avoid the need for lengthy video conferences.
Lucas further stated that, prior to this conversation, he had been using Altru to record videos explaining the acquisition to his own team. He commended the platform’s user-friendly design, adding with humor, “If I can operate it, anyone can.”
Rehmatullah confirmed that the entire Altru team will be joining iCIMS, where he will assume the position of vice president of content strategy. The plan is to continue Altru as an independent product while simultaneously exploring opportunities to integrate it more fully with the iCIMS platform.
Altru had previously secured $1.3 million in funding from Birchmere Ventures, Active Capital, and Techstars.
