Hulu Launches Online Shop - Holiday Sweaters & Merch

Hulu Follows Netflix with Launch of Online Merchandise Store

This summer saw Netflix introduce a dedicated shopping platform, enabling fans to acquire merchandise – including clothing, accessories, and lifestyle items – inspired by their favorite series, such as “Stranger Things.” Now, Hulu is implementing a similar strategy.

The Disney-owned streaming service has announced the arrival of Shop Hulu. This new online destination will showcase exclusive, limited-edition collections of apparel and lifestyle products drawn from Hulu Originals and other titles available within the company’s extensive on-demand library.

Furthermore, the store will offer Hulu-branded merchandise. Notably, it will also mark the first time Hulu’s highly anticipated annual “Ugly Holiday Sweaters” are available for direct purchase.

The Popularity of Hulu’s Holiday Sweaters

Hulu initially began distributing its distinctive ugly sweaters to randomly selected fans as a promotional incentive back in 2019. The initiative proved remarkably successful.

Last year, the giveaway evolved into a sweepstakes, providing all interested individuals with an opportunity to win one of the sweaters, which featured designs inspired by Hulu shows like “Little Fires Everywhere,” “Shrill,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

The 2021 collection of holiday sweaters will become available for purchase beginning on Tuesday, November 30.

Charitable Focus and Product Lineup

This year’s sweater designs celebrate shows including “Love, Victor,” “Solar Opposites,” “The Great,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” many of which have been popular choices in previous years.

However, a key distinction exists between Hulu and Netflix. While Netflix views its online store as a new component of its broader retail operations, Hulu’s primary objective with its merchandise is to generate funds for charitable causes.

Hulu states that, through December 31, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Ugly Holiday Sweater collection – excluding taxes and shipping costs – will be donated to Feeding America.

The company has capped its donation at $54,950, representing the equivalent of 1,000 sweaters.

Hulu’s shop will continue to offer a variety of products throughout the year, extending beyond its holiday charitable initiative.

Fans of “Solar Opposites” will have the opportunity to purchase apparel, glassware, stickers, and other items coinciding with the premiere of the show’s holiday special on November 22.

This collection was created in collaboration with the show’s Executive Producers: Mike McMahan, Justin Roiland, and Josh Bycel.

Expanded Merchandise Offerings

Household goods and apparel from series such as “The Orville” and “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” will also be available. Select items from a capsule collection created with Mitchell & Ness are included.

Themed merchandise from acquired shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “American Horror Story,” and “What We Do in the Shadows,” will also be featured.

Promotional Offers

Hulu will provide shoppers with a discount for subscribing to its newsletter. Special offers are planned for throughout the year, beginning with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales events.
