Reverting to Stock iOS: A Guide to Unjailbreaking

If you are reconsidering the modifications made by jailbreaking your iOS device, a straightforward process exists to return it to its original, factory state.

Contrary to some guidance, unjailbreaking doesn’t necessarily require entering recovery or DFU mode. A simpler method involves erasing your device and subsequently restoring it from a previously created backup.

Backing Up and Preparing Your Device

Begin by connecting your iOS device to your computer and launching iTunes. Select your device within iTunes by clicking the device icon located in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window.

Prior to proceeding, ensure that iTunes contains all desired media, such as movies and music, that you wish to retain on your device. Then, initiate a backup of your device’s apps and settings.

To create a backup, click the "Back Up Now" option within iTunes.

Following the backup completion, navigate to the Settings app on your device. Access iCloud > Find My iPhone and temporarily disable the "Find My iPhone" feature.

Restoring Your Device

Return to iTunes and select "Restore iPhone".

A prompt may appear asking if you wish to create another backup; however, since a backup was already performed, choose "Don't Back Up".

Confirm the restoration process by clicking "Restore" in the subsequent window.

The restoration process will commence and typically requires approximately five minutes to finish.

Upon completion, iTunes will display a screen offering options. You can choose to "Set up as new iPhone" for a clean start, or select "Restore from this backup" to reinstate your apps, settings, and contacts.

Completing the Setup

Restoring from a backup takes several minutes. Once iTunes indicates the backup restoration is complete and your device reboots, unlock it.

The iOS Setup Assistant will then appear. Swipe right to proceed through the setup steps, configuring settings such as Location Services, Touch ID, Apple Pay, and iCloud.

After completing the setup, you may observe some apps displaying a "Waiting..." indicator. This signifies that these applications are being downloaded and installed, which may take some time.

Once the download and installation are finished, your iPhone or iPad will be fully functional and free from the jailbreak.

Important Note: Regularly backing up your device is crucial, regardless of whether it is jailbroken or not, to safeguard your data.
