Send eBooks to Kindle: A Simple Guide

Utilizing Send to Kindle for PC

The Send to Kindle for PC feature provides a convenient method for transferring content to your Kindle device. This functionality supports various file types, including complimentary ebooks and standard Word documents.

Alternative transfer methods are also available, offering flexibility in how you manage your Kindle library.

Transfer Options

Beyond the dedicated application, files can be delivered to your Kindle via email. Utilizing a dedicated email address, @Kindle.com, allows for wireless document delivery.

For those preferring a direct connection, transferring files via a USB cable remains a viable option.

Kindle Personal Documents Service

All documents transferred to your Kindle are securely stored within the Kindle Personal Documents online service. This ensures your content is readily accessible.

Should you acquire a new Kindle device, your personal documents will be automatically reinstated, eliminating the need for manual re-uploading.

Cross-Platform Access

Access to your personal document library isn't limited to your Kindle e-reader.

Kindle applications available on other platforms also provide access to these files, ensuring a consistent reading experience across devices.

Utilizing Send to Kindle for PC

The Send to Kindle for PC application, developed by Amazon, provides a streamlined method for transferring ebooks and various document types to your Kindle device.

Once installed, a convenient “Send to Kindle” function is integrated directly into your right-click context menu. This allows for rapid document delivery to your Kindle, bypassing the need for email attachments or physical cable connections.

Simplified Document Transfer

The application facilitates a more efficient workflow for getting content onto your e-reader. It eliminates traditional transfer methods, offering a quicker alternative.

Furthermore, Send to Kindle for PC incorporates a virtual printer driver. Selecting “Send to Kindle” from the print dialog will automatically transmit your document to your Kindle for reading.

This virtual printer functionality offers another convenient pathway for transferring documents. It’s particularly useful for content not originally intended as an ebook.

Utilizing the @Kindle.com Email Feature

Prior to the availability of a dedicated PC application, the primary method for transferring documents to a Kindle device without a USB cable involved sending them to the user's unique @Kindle.com email address.

Before initiating document transfers, it is necessary to configure your personal email address as an authorized sender. Begin by accessing the 'Manage Your Kindle' page on the Amazon website. Then, locate and click the “Personal Document Settings” link within the 'Your Kindle Account' section of the sidebar.

Select the "Add a New Approved Email Address" option and input your email address(es) into the provided list. Only email addresses included on this approved list will be permitted to send documents to your Kindle.

Upon successful addition, you will be able to transmit documents to your Kindle using the email address displayed on the settings page.

Important Note: Documents dispatched to your @Kindle.com address may utilize Whispernet for delivery. Amazon incurs charges from wireless providers for this service, and a delivery fee may be applied. To avoid these costs, consider sending documents to @free.kindle.com instead, ensuring delivery occurs via Wi-Fi, which is a complimentary service.

Kindle Personal Document Management

The documents you transfer to your Kindle via the Send to Kindle application or through your dedicated @kindle.com email address are maintained in a digital repository known as your Kindle Personal Documents library.

Upon acquiring a new Kindle device, these documents will be automatically synchronized and downloaded, mirroring the behavior of your purchased ebooks.

Accessing Your Library

Your Personal Documents library can be accessed and administered through the Manage Your Kindle webpage. Simply select the "Personal Documents" link located within the sidebar menu.

The Actions button, associated with each document, provides options for removal from your library or for initiating a redelivery to your registered Kindle devices.

This allows for convenient control over your personal content on your Kindle.

File Transfers via USB Connection

Utilizing cloud services isn't the only method for getting files onto your Kindle. Connecting your Kindle to your computer via its USB cable will register it as a dedicated drive within your computer’s file explorer.

Ebooks and various documents can then be easily transferred by simply dragging and dropping them into the Kindle’s designated “Documents” folder.

Supported File Types and Folders

If your Kindle model has audio capabilities, music files and audiobooks can also be added. These should be placed within the “Music” and “Audible” folders, respectively.

It’s important to note that files transferred through this USB method are not automatically saved to your Kindle Personal Documents library.

Furthermore, these files will not be automatically synced to a replacement Kindle device.

Alternative Transfer Methods

Beyond USB, several browser-based options exist for sending files to your Kindle. Consider exploring the Kindlebility bookmarklet and the Send to Kindle extension for Google Chrome for added convenience.

Currently, direct file transfer via these methods is limited to Kindle devices and the Kindle apps available for iOS devices – specifically, the iPhone, iPod, and iPad.

Amazon has indicated that compatibility will be expanded to include Kindle Cloud Reader, Kindle for Android, and other platforms in future updates.
