Purge Chrome Memory: Speed Up Your Browser - Guide

Reclaiming RAM with Google Chrome's Memory Purge Feature
Recent developer versions of Google Chrome offer a built-in function designed to optimize memory usage and reduce RAM consumption. This feature is straightforward to activate and utilize. However, access is currently limited to users running builds from the Dev Channel.
Enabling the Memory Purge Button
To enable this functionality, locate the shortcut used to launch Chrome. If the shortcut is pinned to your Windows taskbar, a Shift+Right-Click action will reveal the context menu. Add the following flag to the end of the target path – ensure that two hyphens are included.
--purge-memory-button
After modifying the shortcut, launching Chrome will activate the new feature. You can then access Chrome’s Task Manager by either right-clicking on the title bar or utilizing the Shift+Esc keyboard shortcut.

Using the Purge Memory Function
Within Chrome’s Task Manager, a Purge Memory button will now be visible. Selecting this button initiates a memory cleanup process.
It’s important to note that this process doesn’t reclaim all allocated memory, but it can significantly reduce Chrome’s RAM footprint. The feature is designed to free up resources that the browser is no longer actively using.
This provides a simple method for users to manage Google Chrome’s memory usage directly, potentially improving system performance.
