Preventing iTunes Launch with Safari

macOS by Apple provides users with a highly efficient default web browser, Safari. However, the default music player, iTunes, is often criticized for its resource intensity. A common frustration arises from the frequent, automatic launching of iTunes when accessing certain pages within Safari.

If you find Safari consistently initiating iTunes, particularly when browsing the App Store, a solution is readily available. The No More iTunes extension offers a straightforward method to disable this behavior.

Installing the No More iTunes Extension

To begin, navigate to the No More iTunes webpage. Locate and click the download button to acquire the extension file.

Installation is initiated by simply opening the .safariextz file. A prompt will appear, requesting confirmation of your trust in the extension.

Select "Trust" to complete the installation process. The extension will then be active and running in Safari.

Test the functionality by opening an App Store listing. You should now be able to view screenshots and information without iTunes automatically launching.

Accessing iTunes When Needed

Despite disabling the automatic launch, iTunes remains accessible when desired. A bar at the top of the Safari window provides a direct launch option.

Alternatively, a "View In iTunes" button located below the app's icon allows you to access comprehensive reviews and additional details, should you choose to do so.

By implementing these steps, you can effectively control when iTunes runs, enhancing your browsing experience and minimizing unnecessary application launches.
