Display Computer Icon on Windows 8.1 Desktop - Guide
Restoring the Computer Icon in Windows 8.1
Users familiar with previous versions of Windows, such as Windows 7, Vista, and XP, may notice the absence of the familiar Computer icon on the Desktop in Windows 8.1. However, the functionality has not been removed entirely.
It’s important to note that the Computer icon has been renamed to This PC in Windows 8.1.
Steps to Re-enable the Icon
To reinstate the icon on your Desktop, begin by right-clicking on any unoccupied area of the Desktop. From the context menu that appears, select Personalize.
You also have the option to enable other Desktop icons, such as Control Panel and User’s Files, if desired. Confirm your selections by clicking OK.
A double-click on the newly restored This PC icon on your Desktop will launch Windows Explorer. This provides access to your folders, connected devices, drives, and network locations.
