Hide Quick Action Buttons in Windows 10 Action Center

Customizing the Windows 10 Action Center
The Action Center within Windows 10 serves as a central hub for notifications and logs a diverse range of system events. It also offers convenient, single-click access to various functionalities through the use of Quick Action Buttons.
Hiding Quick Action Buttons
For users who find the Quick Action Buttons unnecessary, they can be readily concealed. This customization is achieved through a modification of the Windows Registry.
A registry hack allows for the removal of these buttons, streamlining the Action Center interface. This can be particularly useful for those who prefer a cleaner, less cluttered experience.
Further Information: Instructions on disabling the entire Action Center in Windows 10 are also available.
By utilizing this method, users can tailor the Action Center to better suit their individual needs and preferences.
Modifying Quick Action Button Visibility Through Registry Editing
The number of actions displayed on the Quick Action Buttons can be customized, or the entire Action Center can be altered. If you experience a high volume of notifications within Windows 10 and desire to conceal the Quick Action Buttons to maximize the notification area within the Action Center pane, a straightforward registry modification can achieve this. This adjustment proves particularly beneficial for users with smaller displays, but also allows for displaying only one, two, or three buttons instead of the standard four.
Important Caution: The Registry Editor is a potent system tool, and improper use can lead to system instability or failure. While this particular modification is relatively simple, adhering closely to the provided instructions is crucial. If you are unfamiliar with the Registry Editor, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with its usage before proceeding. Furthermore, creating a backup of the Registry (and your entire computer!) prior to making any changes is strongly advised.
Begin by logging into Windows with the user account for which you intend to hide the Quick Action Buttons. Launch the Registry Editor by simultaneously pressing the Windows key and the 'R' key on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
Type regedit into the "Open" field and click "OK".
Alternatively, you can utilize the Windows search function to locate and run "regedit" from the search results.

If prompted by the User Account Control dialog, click "Yes" to continue the process.
Note that this dialog may not appear, depending on your current User Account Control settings.

Within the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following key on the left-hand pane:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\ActionCenter\Quick Actions
On the right side of the window, locate the PinnedQuickActionSlotCount value. Observe the number 4 displayed in the "Data" column; this represents the default number of buttons visible in the Quick Actions area.
To modify this setting, double-click the PinnedQuickActionSlotCount value.

The Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value dialog will appear. To completely hide the Quick Action Buttons, enter 0 into the "Value data" field and click "OK".
Note: Entering 1, 2, or 3 into the "Value data" field will display the corresponding number of Quick Action Buttons. Returning to the default configuration requires entering 4.

To exit the Registry Editor, select "Exit" from the "File" menu.
For the changes to be applied, either log out of your user account and log back in, or terminate and restart the explorer.exe process.

Upon reopening the Action Center pane, the Quick Action Buttons will be absent (if you entered 0 as the registry key value). It's important to note that the actions themselves are not disabled; they remain accessible by clicking the "Expand" option at the bottom of the Action Center pane.

Streamline Your Experience with One-Click Registry Modifications
For users who prefer not to manually edit the Windows Registry, we have developed a set of downloadable registry hacks for convenient application. These hacks allow you to customize the display of Quick Action Buttons, choosing to conceal all four buttons or display one, two, three, or the standard four.
All five customization options are packaged within a single ZIP archive. Simply double-click the desired hack and follow the on-screen instructions to implement the changes.
Applying the Registry Hacks
It’s important to note that after applying your preferred hacks, you must either sign out of your user account and sign back in, or terminate and restart the explorer.exe process. This ensures the modifications are fully implemented and visible.
Customizing Action Center Quick Action Buttons
These readily available hacks essentially contain the relevant registry keys, isolated to the specific values discussed previously. They are then exported as .REG files for easy execution.
Each hack modifies the PinnedQuickActionSlotCount value within the Registry, setting it to 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, corresponding to the desired number of displayed buttons.
For those interested in deeper system customization, investing time in learning how to create your own Registry hacks can be a valuable skill.
- Understanding the Registry allows for precise control over system behavior.
- Creating custom hacks enables tailored adjustments beyond pre-made options.
These downloadable hacks provide a quick and easy method for personalizing the Action Center, while also encouraging exploration of the Registry's capabilities.
