Disable Windows 10 Lock Screen Ads - A Simple Guide

Removing Advertisements from Your Windows 10 Lock Screen
Many users have recently encountered promotional advertisements, such as those for Square Enix’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, appearing on their Windows 10 login screen. This functionality is driven by the Windows Spotlight feature within the Personalization settings. Fortunately, this behavior can be easily deactivated.
It’s worth noting that purchasing games, including Rise of the Tomb Raider, directly from the Windows Store may not always be the most advantageous option. This is particularly relevant considering the presence of these lock screen promotions.
Disabling Windows Spotlight
To eliminate these lock screen advertisements, begin by accessing the Start menu and opening the Settings application.
Within Settings, select the "Personalization" option, then navigate to the "Lock Screen" tab.
Locate the setting labeled "Windows Spotlight." Clicking on this setting allows you to choose an alternative display option. You can select either a static "Picture" or a rotating "Slideshow" based on your preference.
This action prevents Microsoft from automatically displaying advertisements on your login screen without your explicit consent.
Finally, after choosing your preferred login screen style, ensure that the option "Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen" is unchecked.
This final step ensures that you will not be presented with unexpected promotional material, such as advertisements for Tomb Raider or other applications, upon subsequent logins.
Customizing Windows Spotlight Content
Bonus Tip: If you find the advertisements generally unobtrusive and wish to refine the content displayed, you can provide feedback to Microsoft regarding your interests. This is achieved by clicking the icon located in the top-right corner of your lock screen.
A menu will then appear, offering two choices: "I want more!" and "Not a fan!". Selecting "I want more!" will result in the presentation of similar content in the future. Conversely, choosing "Not a fan!" will replace the current image and prevent comparable advertisements from appearing again.
This allows for a degree of personalization, ensuring that the content displayed aligns more closely with your preferences.
