Configure Windows 10 Weather App - A Simple Guide

Configuring the Windows Weather App
The Windows Weather application, despite not undergoing substantial changes since its initial redesign in Windows 8, remains a frequently used tool for desktop weather updates.
Adjusting App Settings
Users can personalize their experience by adjusting the app’s settings. This allows for a tailored view of weather information.
Configuration options include units of measurement and location preferences. These settings ensure the app displays data in a format that is easily understood.
Managing Favorite Locations
The app allows users to save multiple locations for quick access. This feature is particularly useful for monitoring weather conditions in different cities or regions.
To manage your list of favorites, simply search for a location and add it. Removing a location is equally straightforward, providing flexibility and control.
Setting Up the Live Tile
The live tile feature provides at-a-glance weather information directly on the Start menu. This offers a convenient way to stay informed without opening the app.
To configure the live tile, right-click on the Weather app tile and select "More" then "Configure". From there, you can choose the level of detail displayed.
Available options for the live tile include temperature, conditions, and alerts. Selecting the appropriate options ensures the tile provides the most relevant information.
The Windows Weather app offers a simple and effective way to stay updated on current weather conditions. By utilizing its configuration options, users can optimize the app for their specific needs.
Configuring Your Location in the Windows 10 Weather App
To personalize the Windows 10 Weather app with your location, begin by locating and opening the application from the Start menu.
As my Weather app is already set up, Portland, Oregon is automatically shown as the default city.

Accessing Settings
You can access the settings menu by clicking the gear-shaped icon situated in the lower-left corner of the application window.

While the settings options are limited, you can select your preferred temperature unit – either Fahrenheit or Celsius.
Furthermore, you can define the location displayed when the app is initially launched.

Launch Location Options
The “Launch Location” setting determines the initial view upon opening the app.
You have the choice of displaying a specific city by default, or enabling the app to automatically detect your location each time it’s started.

Your chosen setting will impact both the city shown on the main summary page and the starting location used within the Maps and Historical Weather sections.

Notably, the articles featured in the News tab remain unaffected by the Launch Location setting.
These news items will continue to be displayed consistently, regardless of your selected city.

Personalizing Your Weather Experience: Managing Favorites
For frequent travelers or those with a keen interest in meteorology, the Places tab allows you to create a customized list of favorite locations.
This feature enables you to monitor weather conditions in specific cities at a glance. These locations are displayed as tiles, providing concise weather summaries and serving as direct links to detailed city-specific forecasts.
Adding Favorite Cities
To begin adding a city to your favorites, locate and click the tile featuring a plus sign in its center.
This action will navigate you to a search interface.
Enter the desired city name into the search field. Subsequently, select the correct city from the resulting drop-down list. The chosen city will then be readily accessible each time you visit the Places tab.
Removing Favorite Cities
Deleting a favorite location is a straightforward process. Simply right-click on the tile representing the city you wish to remove.
From the context menu that appears, select the "Remove from Favorites" option. This will instantly remove the city from your personalized list.

The Issue with Live Tiles in the Windows Weather App
While the Windows Weather application functions correctly when launched, numerous users have reported inconsistencies with its Live Tile functionality.
Ideally, the Live Tile should dynamically display the current temperature alongside a brief forecast, refreshing at regular intervals, as illustrated previously.
Reported Problems and Potential Solutions
Discussions on the official Windows 10 forum indicate that the Live Tile can cease to update after resizing the Weather app icon within the Start menu. This issue persists even after system restarts.
Several potential workarounds have been suggested, though their effectiveness appears to be limited and varies between users. These include:
- Utilizing the System File Checker tool to scan for and repair corrupted system files.
- Adjusting the display's DPI scaling to 100%, 125%, or 150%.
- Terminating the "Windows RT OOP Server" process through Task Manager.
Despite user reports dating back two years, Microsoft has yet to announce a dedicated patch to address this specific bug. Updates regarding potential fixes will be incorporated into this article as they become available.
Continued Functionality of the Windows Weather App
Regardless of the Live Tile’s operational status, the Windows Weather app remains a convenient tool for monitoring local weather conditions directly from your desktop.
It provides a readily accessible means of staying informed about both favorable weather and potential storms in your region.
