Honda '0 SUV' Prototype Revealed at CES 2025

Honda Showcases the 0 SUV at CES 2025

At CES 2025, Honda officially presented its newest electric vehicle, the 0 SUV, a mid-size SUV prototype belonging to the 0 Series. This unveiling follows the introduction of the 0 Saloon showcased at the previous year’s event.

While the 0 Saloon was initially revealed, the 0 SUV will be the first model from this innovative lineup to become available to consumers.

Production of the SUV is slated to begin in North America during the first half of 2026. It will be manufactured at Honda’s dedicated “EV Hub” facility located in Ohio.

Global Rollout and Production Plans

Following its North American debut, the 0 SUV will be distributed to various global markets.

The 0 Saloon will commence production at the same Ohio facility in late 2026, with subsequent expansion into other international regions.

Design Philosophy: "Thin, Light, and Wise"

Honda’s guiding principle for the 0 Series vehicles is encapsulated in the mantra “thin, light, and wise.” This concept was consistently emphasized during Tuesday’s press conference.

Katsushi Inoue, senior managing executive officer of Honda Motor, explained that this approach has led to an expanded interior cabin space. It also delivers an exceptionally clear and unobstructed view, alongside adaptable seating arrangements.

Strategic Partnerships and Industry Context

The unveiling occurred shortly after Honda and Nissan announced a significant plan to merge their operations. This potential merger may also include Mitsubishi.

The companies stated that this consolidation is intended to enhance their competitiveness within the rapidly evolving automotive landscape, currently driven by Tesla’s advancements.

ASIMO OS: The New Software Platform

Honda also announced the name of the software platform powering the 0 Series: ASIMO OS. This name pays tribute to the company’s renowned bipedal robot.

The operating system will integrate the vehicle’s electrical architecture with its infotainment system—a common trend in modern vehicle development.

Honda indicated that ASIMO OS will provide a personalized mobility experience for each user, though specific details remain limited.

Technical Specifications and Automated Driving

Detailed specifications for the Honda 0 SUV were not fully disclosed. However, Honda confirmed the inclusion of steer-by-wire technology.

The 0 Series vehicles will also incorporate automated driving software developed in collaboration with Helm.AI, a startup specializing in unsupervised learning.

This collaboration aims to enhance the autonomous capabilities of the new vehicle lineup.
