Hide Recycle Bin Icon Text - Windows Vista
Removing the Recycle Bin Text
The Recycle Bin icon is a familiar sight, largely unchanged since its introduction in Windows 95. Its labeling, however, may appear redundant to many users.
It's possible to eliminate this text from the icon through a simple modification of the Windows registry. This process is straightforward and quickly implemented.
Applying the Registry Patch
Begin by downloading the appropriate registry patch. Once downloaded, extract the contents of the archive.
Double-clicking the extracted file will initiate the patching process. You will be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to confirm your intention to proceed.
Following the application of the patch, refresh your desktop by right-clicking and selecting "Refresh". The Recycle Bin icon will now appear without the accompanying text.
This modification provides a cleaner desktop aesthetic.
Restoring the Original Icon
Should you wish to revert to the original Recycle Bin icon, a separate registry patch is available for download.
Extract the contents of this patch and double-click the file to execute it. Again, UAC prompts will appear, requiring confirmation.
Upon completion, the Recycle Bin icon will return to its default state, displaying the text label.
For those interested in removing text from other desktop icons, a separate guide detailing this process is available.
