GoPro Triggers: Motion, Power & QR Control - GoPro

GoPro initially gained prominence by offering a compelling blend of performance and value within the action camera market. However, the company has progressively focused on catering to the needs of professional users and commercial applications. Recent announcements made at CES demonstrate this shift, with new functionalities designed to streamline camera operation for rental services and facilitate hands-free recording.

Owners of the Hero 7, 8, or 9 Black cameras, as well as the Max model, can now access a new set of features through the latest GoPro Labs firmware update.

This update introduces motion and USB power triggers, allowing cameras to automatically begin and cease recording when either movement is detected or power is supplied – ideal for applications like dashcams. Furthermore, motion detection capabilities have been refined and are now compatible across all video recording modes.

GoPro cameras already support task initiation via QR code scanning. This functionality has been expanded to include the ability to connect to a designated Wi-Fi network and initiate live streaming directly from a QR code, offering a quicker setup process than using the mobile application.

A particularly useful addition for the tourism industry is the “one button mode.” As the name suggests, this mode restricts camera controls to simply starting and stopping video recording. This simplifies operation for users less familiar with technology while also preventing rental companies from receiving cameras with altered settings due to complex user customizations.

Additional enhancements are detailed in the official press release.
