Google Pixel 10 Series Launched: Triple Camera on Base Model
Google Unveils the Pixel 10 Series
At its Made by Google event on Wednesday, Google officially introduced the Pixel 10 lineup, comprising the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL models.
Powering these new devices is Google’s latest Tensor G5 processor. A significant hardware alteration in this generation is the inclusion of a triple-camera system for the standard Pixel 10.
Conversely, the Pro variants primarily feature incremental improvements to both the processor and camera sensors.
Camera System Enhancements
The Pixel 9 previously utilized a dual-camera configuration with wide and ultra-wide sensors. The Pixel 10 now incorporates a dedicated telephoto lens.
This addition facilitates 5x optical zoom and extends digital zoom capabilities to 20x via Super Res Zoom. The base model boasts a 48-megapixel wide sensor, alongside quad phase detection for each pixel – resulting in quicker and more effective low-light focusing – and a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor.
Furthermore, they feature a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and an enhanced 100x Super Res digital zoom.
Display and Performance
The screen sizes across the series remain consistent with previous models. Both the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro offer a 6.3-inch display, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL features a larger 6.8-inch display.
Google has introduced a new “Actua” display across all devices, enabling peak brightness levels of up to 3,300 nits on the Pro models and 3,000 nits on the standard Pixel 10.
According to Google, this new chip delivers a 34% increase in CPU performance and a 60% boost to the TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) compared to the prior generation, unlocking faster processing and advanced AI functionalities.
Advancements in AI Capabilities
Last year, Google integrated Gemini as its standard assistant with the Pixel 9 release. Accompanying this were innovative tools such as Pixel Studio, designed for AI-driven image creation, and a dedicated screenshot application.
Building on this foundation, Google has enhanced Gemini Live this year. It now supports visual overlays during video-based inquiries. This allows the assistant to provide guidance through on-screen highlighting of specific elements.
A new capability, termed Magic Cue, is also being launched. This feature proactively delivers relevant information sourced from various applications. For example, when engaged in a phone conversation with an airline, it can display your flight information directly from your email.
Furthermore, a Gemini-powered camera coach is being introduced. This tool will offer real-time suggestions for improved photography, focusing on aspects like framing and composition, directly within the camera interface.
Additional features include live translation during calls, transcriptions for calls that are missed or rejected via call screening, and integration of Notebook LM with both the screenshot and recorder applications.
The Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are priced comparably to their predecessors, at $799 and $999 respectively. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL now has a starting price of $1,199, an increase from $1,099, and includes 256GB of base storage.
