Google Fi Turns 6 & Launches New Unlimited Plan

Google Fi Announces New “Simply Unlimited” Pricing Plan
Google Fi, Google's mobile network, is commemorating its sixth anniversary with the introduction of a new pricing structure. This new offering, named “Simply Unlimited,” begins at $60 monthly for a single line.
The cost can be reduced to $30 per line when subscribing to service for three or more lines. This plan provides unlimited voice calls and text messages within the U.S., alongside unlimited data and texting capabilities throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
A Look Back at Google Fi’s Evolution
Initially, Google Fi presented a unique, pay-as-you-go model. Users paid a fixed monthly rate for basic calling and texting services.
Data usage was then billed at $10 per gigabyte, with a maximum monthly cost of $80. In 2019, this system evolved into what became known as Fi Unlimited, starting at $70 per month for individual subscribers, with tiered discounts for multiple lines.
Understanding the “Simply Unlimited” and “Unlimited Plus” Plans
The newly launched “Simply Unlimited” plan represents a streamlined version of the original Unlimited offering. The previous Unlimited plan has been rebranded as “Unlimited Plus.”
The Unlimited Plus plan retains a suite of advanced features that may be essential for certain users, despite the slightly higher cost. These features include complimentary international calls to over 50 countries.
Furthermore, it offers international data access in more than 200 locations, full-speed hotspot tethering, and 100 GB of Google One cloud storage.
The Flexible Plan Remains an Option
The Flexible plan continues to be available, featuring a base monthly fee of $20 for calling and texting on a single line. This cost decreases to $17 per month for three or more lines.
Data is charged at a rate of $10 per gigabyte, regardless of location or tethering usage. Google recommends this plan for individuals who primarily connect via WiFi.
Is “Simply Unlimited” a Good Value?
For users who do not frequently travel outside of North America, the new Simply Unlimited plan appears to be a competitive option. Its pricing is favorable when compared to similar plans from other providers.
Especially beneficial is the inclusion of international data, which can be a significant cost-saver for those who travel internationally.
