Google Fi to Get AI Audio & RCS Web Messaging - Updates

Google Fi Receives Significant Updates: AI and RCS Enhancements
Google revealed on Tuesday a series of new improvements for Google Fi, its mobile service. These updates encompass artificial intelligence-powered noise reduction and web-based RCS messaging capabilities.
AI-Powered Call Clarity
The technology company states that voice calls will now utilize AI to enhance audio quality. This enhancement aims to minimize background disturbances and improve speech intelligibility, even when communicating with individuals using traditional landlines or older handsets.
The update is designed to facilitate more natural and fluid conversations. While enabled by default, users retain the ability to disable the AI audio processing if desired.
Deployment of the AI-enhanced audio feature is scheduled for next month.
RCS Web Messaging Improvements
Regarding RCS web messaging, Google is refining its “Messages for web” integration. A redesigned interface now provides complete RCS support, enabling the seamless sharing of high-resolution images and videos within message exchanges.
This update is expected to become available in December.
Expanded Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ Availability
Furthermore, Google Fi is broadening the reach of its Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ feature. This feature intelligently connects users to premium Wi-Fi networks, ensuring a more stable connection in high-density areas such as airports and shopping centers.
“We are extending the availability of this functionality to millions of locations, including major airports like LAX, ORD, and JFK, as well as select shopping malls and retail establishments,” explained Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager at Google Fi Wireless, in a recent blog post.
The service operates automatically and is provided at no additional cost. Google Fi is currently the only major carrier offering automatic encryption of online activity when connected to premium Wi-Fi networks.
Users can identify a Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ connection by the presence of the “W+” icon in their device’s status bar.
AI-Powered Summaries and Promotional Offer
The Google Fi application is also introducing personalized, AI-generated summaries. These summaries will clarify billing details, explain monthly variations, and illustrate the potential impact of plan modifications on future expenses.
In conjunction with Tuesday’s announcements, Google Fi is launching a limited-time offer for new subscribers. This promotion provides a 50% discount for 15 months to those who bring their own device and subscribe to either the “Unlimited Essentials” or “Unlimited Plan.”
