Google Cloud Launches New Support for Mission Critical Workloads

Google Cloud Launches Mission Critical Services Support
Google Cloud has unveiled a new support tier designed for customers operating essential services on its infrastructure. This new option, called Mission Critical Services (MCS), leverages Google's internal expertise in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to benefit its clientele.
It's important to note that this isn't a complete takeover of service management by Google. Rather, the company positions it as a collaborative effort, a “consultative offering” focused on guiding customers toward operational preparedness.
Initial Focus: Architecture and Monitoring
The initial phase of MCS will concentrate on assisting customers in refining – or establishing – the architectural foundations of their applications. Google will also aid in implementing appropriate monitoring tools and controls.
A key component of this process involves defining and elevating service-level objectives, a central tenet of the SRE methodology.
Ongoing Support and Rapid Response
Following the initial setup, Google will provide regular consultations with its engineering teams and conduct periodic architecture reviews. These tune-ups will ensure continued optimization.
Google Cloud’s VP for Customer Experience, John Jester, highlighted the speed of response: “Our most experienced engineers will possess in-depth knowledge of your workloads, enabling swift monitoring, prevention, and mitigation of issues.”
He further explained that in the event of problems – available 24/7 – Google will establish a dedicated “war room” with expert personnel within five minutes.
Differentiating Google Cloud
This new offering underscores Google Cloud’s strategy to distinguish itself within the competitive cloud market. The company is prioritizing high-touch service experiences, particularly catering to the requirements of large enterprise organizations.
This direction aligns with the commitments made by CEO Thomas Kurian upon his appointment, and demonstrates ongoing progress toward those goals.
