Google Cloud Joins FinOps Foundation - Cloud Cost Management

Google Cloud Joins the FinOps Foundation as a Premier Member
Google Cloud has recently announced its membership as a Premier Member within the FinOps Foundation.
About the FinOps Foundation
The FinOps Foundation is a recently established open-source initiative, operating under the auspices of the Linux Foundation. It was launched last year with the goal of uniting organizations involved in “cloud financial management.”
This field centers around the methodologies and tools that assist businesses in controlling and allocating their cloud expenditures. The rise of specialized startups focused solely on cloud spend optimization and reduction underscores the importance of this area.
Foundation Membership and Growth
The FinOps Foundation originated from Cloudability’s regular Customer Advisory Board sessions. Previously, CloudHealth by VMware held the sole Premiere Member position among vendor participants.
Other contributing members include Cloudability, Densify, Kubecost, and SoftwareOne. Google Cloud now represents the Foundation’s first significant cloud provider to join at the Premier level.
Google Cloud’s Perspective
Yanbing Li, Vice President of Engineering and Product at Google Cloud, stated, “FinOps best practices are vital for organizations to effectively oversee, analyze, and optimize cloud spending across numerous projects crucial to their success.”
Li continued, “Enhanced visibility, improved efficiency, and more robust tools will empower our customers to refine their cloud implementations and generate increased business value. We are pleased to collaborate with the FinOps Foundation and fellow organizations to foster industry-wide behavioral shifts.”
Commitment to Open-Source Standards
Google Cloud has pledged to contribute personnel to the Foundation’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Working Groups. This participation aims to advance open-source standards for cloud financial management.
FinOps Foundation’s Response
J.R. Storment, Executive Director of the FinOps Foundation, commented, “The FinOps Foundation’s practitioners benefit significantly when industry leaders like Google Cloud dedicate resources and align their products with FinOps principles and standards.”
Storment added, “We are delighted to witness Google Cloud’s increased commitment to the FinOps Foundation, joining VMware as the second of three designated Premier Member Technical Advisory Council seats.”
