GMC to Expand EV Offerings with Full-Size Electric Pickup

General Motors is set to broaden its electric vehicle portfolio with the addition of a full-size electric pickup truck under the GMC brand. This announcement represents the newest in a series of EV initiatives unveiled by the automaker over the last twelve months.

GM aims to surpass 1 million global electric vehicle deliveries by the year 2025, and this new pickup is a key component of that strategy.

Details Revealed During Media Presentation

The forthcoming electric pickup was initially showcased within a presentation slide deck and subsequently verified by TechCrunch. Duncan Aldred, the global vice president of Buick and GMC, refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the vehicle’s specifications or anticipated production timeline.

GMC Hummer EV Production Imminent

Currently, GMC is preparing to initiate production of the GMC Hummer EV in the final quarter of the current year.

This vehicle will be manufactured at the Factory ZERO facility, located in Detroit and Hamtramck. It boasts an impressive projected range of 350 miles, generating 1,000 horsepower and up to 11,500 pound-feet of torque.

The starting price for the GMC Hummer EV is set at $80,000.

Chevrolet Silverado EV Also in Development

This announcement follows GM’s earlier declaration, made three months prior, concerning the production of an electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The Silverado EV will also be assembled at the Factory ZERO plant.

Ultium Platform and Extended Range

The Chevrolet Silverado EV will utilize GM’s advanced Ultium battery platform. Estimates suggest a range exceeding 400 miles on a single full charge.

Targeting Diverse Markets

According to GM President Mark Reuss, the company intends to position the full-sized Chevrolet pickup for both individual consumers and commercial applications.

Plans are in place to offer both retail and fleet versions of the Silverado EV, featuring a diverse array of options and configurations to meet varying customer needs.
