Nutanix Ex-Executives Launch Startup with $50M Seed Funding

DevRev Launches with $50 Million Seed Funding

A new software company, DevRev, founded by former Nutanix executives, has emerged from stealth mode. The company secured $50 million in seed funding led by Mayfield Fund and Khosla Ventures, alongside contributions from prominent figures in the industry.

Currently, DevRev employs 75 individuals dedicated to developing a novel software platform. The anticipated launch of this platform is slated for later this year.

Founders and Investor Confidence

The substantial $50 million seed round is noteworthy. This investment is likely fueled by the involvement of Dheeraj Pandey, co-founder and former CEO of Nutanix, and Manoj Agarwal, his previous SVP of engineering.

Pandey identified a disconnect between software developers and the revenue generated by their applications. The core concept driving DevRev is to dismantle the barriers separating front-office and back-office functions.

Bridging the Gap Between Development and Revenue

“Development and revenue are intrinsically linked, yet often operate in isolation, hindered by excessive bureaucracy,” Pandey explained. “Our objective is to unify these functions and streamline processes.”

DevRev plans to create an API enabling developers to access crucial information from existing systems. This will benefit companies utilizing CRM tools like Salesforce, as well as newer organizations that may not yet have such infrastructure in place.

The ultimate goal is to provide developers with direct access to customer insights, empowering them to create superior products.

Improving Feedback Loops

Typically, customer feedback and suggestions are channeled through support or sales teams, resulting in ticket creation. However, effectively conveying these issues to the development team can be challenging.

DevRev aims to facilitate a more seamless flow of information between customers and the engineers building the software.

Investor Perspective

Navin Chaddha, Managing Director at Mayfield, emphasized the necessity of integrating these disparate company segments. “The code developed today impacts support, marketing, and sales,” Chaddha stated.

“By connecting issue tracking with revenue and growth metrics, DevRev’s platform empowers developers and positions them as key business leaders.”

Building a Diverse Team

With a team of 75, DevRev is already a significant startup. Founders Pandey and Agarwal recognize the importance of fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Their recruitment efforts are focused on attracting talent from engineering, design, and business programs.

“We are actively seeking methods to identify and nurture talent, cultivating future leaders,” Pandey noted. “Remote work opportunities have broadened our reach, allowing us to tap into a wider pool of candidates.”

Pandey believes that colleges and universities are vital sources of diversity.

Product Development and Community Engagement

DevRev is currently focused on product development. They are actively engaging with developer communities on platforms like Discord and GitHub.

This collaborative approach allows them to gather valuable input, conduct thorough testing, and refine the product based on real-world feedback.

Founders’ Previous Success

The founders’ prior venture, Nutanix, was established in 2009 and secured over $1 billion in funding before its initial public offering in 2016.

Pandey and Agarwal departed from Nutanix at the close of the previous year to embark on this new endeavor with DevRev.
