Satellai: Satellite Pet Tracker Launched at CES 2025
The Emerging Market for Smart Pet Wearables
The market for smart pet wearables is currently valued at $3.69 billion as of 2024. A new company specializing in pet technology is poised to enter this growing sector with a unique dog tracker and collar.
SATELLAI's Innovative Pet Tracker and Collar
At CES 2025, SATELLAI unveiled its pet tracker and smart collar. These devices incorporate features designed to enhance pet wellbeing, including comprehensive health monitoring and detailed activity tracking.
Furthermore, an AI coach, accessible via a dedicated companion app, provides personalized training guidance and pet care recommendations tailored to each individual dog.
Company Origins and Technology
SATELLAI was founded by Mark Mao, who now serves as CEO. Prior to this venture, Mao held a position at Huami, the Chinese smart wearables firm responsible for Amazfit, a competitor to Fitbit.
The concept for SATELLAI originated from a personal experience; Mao discovered his dog had sustained a leg injury while he was away. The smart collar is equipped with seven sensors to monitor vital signs, such as breath rate and heart rate.
Distinguishing Features of SATELLAI
While numerous pet trackers and smart collars are currently available, SATELLAI asserts its products offer several key advantages.
The tracker utilizes a Qualcomm 9205S modem, enabling direct satellite connectivity without reliance on terrestrial signals like LTE. This ensures continuous location tracking, even in areas with limited or no cellular coverage.
SATELLAI claims to be the first to offer this type of direct satellite connectivity in a dog tracker.
Power and Positioning Enhancements
The tracker incorporates a built-in solar panel, allowing for recharging while worn by the pet. A compatible harness is also offered for secure attachment.
The SATELLAI collar employs dual signal transmitters supporting both L1 (the original GPS signal) and L5 (the most advanced) signals. This dual-bandwidth approach aims to improve positioning accuracy in challenging environments.
Utilizing two different bandwidths proves beneficial when the collar is surrounded by obstacles – such as trees or walls – which can cause signals to reflect.
Additional Features and Availability
The device also includes functionalities like virtual fencing and various forms of corrective feedback. These features can help minimize excessive barking or prevent dogs from entering restricted areas, like pools or gardens.
The SATELLAI smart collar is scheduled for release in February. The tracker is tentatively planned for launch in the spring. Pricing for both products remains to be finalized.
