Ford Partners with Amazon to Boost Used Car Sales

Amazon Expands Automotive Sales with Ford
Approximately one year after initiating its foray into online car sales with Hyundai, Amazon is now broadening its automotive offerings. Ford is the latest manufacturer to collaborate, but with a focus on certified pre-owned vehicles.
New Partnership Details
Ford revealed on Monday that customers will have the capability to explore, finance, and finalize purchases of certified pre-owned Ford vehicles directly through the Amazon Autos platform. This collaboration is designed to integrate, rather than replace, the role of dealerships – a vital source of income for Ford.
The process allows customers to view the inventory of participating local dealerships via Amazon’s website. Most of the necessary documentation can be completed online, and a vehicle pickup appointment can then be arranged.
Customer Protections
Ford emphasizes that all certified pre-owned vehicles sold through Amazon Autos are backed by a money-back guarantee. This allows customers to return the vehicle within a 14-day period or after traveling 1,000 miles, whichever occurs sooner.
How Amazon Autos Works
Amazon Autos operates similarly to other sections of the larger Amazon e-commerce platform. Users can search for vehicles from participating dealerships based on criteria such as model, trim level, color, and desired features.
Financing options are also available, and customers can electronically sign all required paperwork directly on the Amazon Autos website.
Expanding Beyond New Cars
The initial launch of Amazon Autos last year centered on the sale of new vehicles, specifically those from Hyundai. The inclusion of Ford introduces a distinct, yet connected, segment: certified pre-owned vehicles.
Initial Market Availability
The availability of Ford vehicles on Amazon Autos will initially be limited to select markets. These include major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas.
