Ford Hires New CDIO to Drive Software & Services Expansion

Ford Appoints Mike Amend as Chief Digital and Information Officer
Ford Motor has announced the appointment of Mike Amend to the position of chief digital and information officer. This strategic hiring reflects the automaker’s commitment to growth in the areas of software, subscription services, and in-vehicle connectivity.
Amend brings significant experience to Ford, having previously served as president of Lowe’s Online for a period of three years. His primary focus will be on optimizing Ford’s utilization of data, software, and technology.
Ford+ Strategy and Digital Expansion
This appointment underscores Ford’s dedication to strengthening its digital capabilities for customers. The company is actively transitioning towards more technologically advanced sectors, a plan formalized under the “Ford+” initiative.
The “Ford+” plan, revealed earlier this year, prioritizes electric vehicles. Ford aims for electric vehicles to account for approximately 50% of its worldwide sales by the year 2030. Furthermore, the strategy involves diversifying revenue streams through subscriptions and digital services.
Amend’s Responsibilities and Team Oversight
In his new role, Amend will be responsible for the leadership of several key teams within Ford. These include the technology and software platform function, as well as the global data insight and analytics section.
Recent Executive Additions
Amend’s arrival is part of a broader trend of Ford attracting top tech talent. Recently, the company also recruited Doug Field, formerly of Apple and Tesla, as chief advanced technology and embedded systems officer.
Ford anticipates close collaboration between Amend, Field, and Hau Thai-Tang, the chief of product development.
Amend’s Background and Prior Experience
Throughout his career, Amend has demonstrated success in expanding the online presence of prominent retail companies. His experience includes leadership roles at Lowe’s, The Home Depot, and JCPenney.
Sakis Kitsopanidis, currently serving as Ford’s interim chief information officer, will continue in his role as director of integrated enterprise resource planning.
