Force Firefox 3 to Use Vista Theme in Windows XP

Enhancing Firefox 3 with the Vista Theme on Windows XP
This guide was authored by Leon Steadman, known for his insightful contributions, including instructions on customizing the XP Classic Logon Screen. Are you a Firefox 3 user on Windows XP (or Windows 2000) who desires the refined aesthetic of the Windows Vista theme, rather than the more colorful XP default?
Instead of the standard appearance... you can achieve this:
Typically, applying a Vista-style theme requires downloading one from the Mozilla Add-ons website. However, these themes can often be large, consume significant system resources, and potentially slow down Firefox’s performance. Furthermore, updates to Firefox may cause them to malfunction, or they might exhibit incomplete rendering due to limitations in the theme’s development.
Fortunately, Firefox, specifically for Windows, incorporates both Vista and XP themes internally. A straightforward method exists to instruct the browser which style to employ. Users on macOS or Linux, or those preferring the Mac/Linux themes on Windows, will need to continue utilizing themes available through the Mozilla Add-ons site.
Simple Implementation Steps
First, ensure all Firefox windows are completely closed. Then, download and extract the contents of the Firefox3WindowsThemes.zip file (link provided at the end of this article). After extraction, navigate to the Strata folder, and then to the Aero folder.
Within this folder, you will find a file named classic.manifest. This file will be used to replace the existing default Firefox version.
Next, access the Firefox application chrome directory. You can do this by opening the Run dialog (Start \ Run) and pasting the following path, or by manually browsing to it through Windows Explorer.
%programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox\chrome
Inside this directory, locate the existing classic.manifest file. It is important to back up this original file before proceeding. Right-click on classic.manifest and select "Rename". Then, rename it to classic.manifest.bak.
Now, copy the classic.manifest file from the Aero folder (which you extracted earlier) and paste it into the Chrome folder. Launch Firefox to experience the Vista-inspired visual enhancements!
Switching Back to the XP Theme
Should you wish to revert to the XP Firefox 3 theme, even while running on Vista, the process is similar. Follow the same steps outlined above, but instead of using the classic.manifest file from the Strata > Aero folder, utilize the one located in the Strata > XP folder.
This is the XP theme!
Reverting to the Original Theme
If you ever want to restore the original Firefox theme, or if you encounter issues after applying the theme, simply delete the classic.manifest file within the Chrome folder. Then, rename the backup copy, classic.manifest.bak, back to classic.manifest.
