Wonder Acquires Tastemade in $90 Million Deal
Wonder, a food delivery startup, is set to acquire the media firm Tastemade for approximately $90 million, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Established in 2012, Tastemade specializes in the creation of video content centered around food, travel, and home improvement.
Expanding Content Capabilities
Tastemade also manages a number of free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels.
This acquisition provides Wonder with a fully-equipped content studio, a robust production company, and an established advertising operation.
Wonder intends to utilize these newly acquired resources to broaden the reach and visibility of its own brands.
The Vision of a "Super App"
The purchase represents a significant advancement in Wonder’s strategy to develop a comprehensive mealtime “super app.”
Marc Lore, founder and CEO of Wonder – formerly the head of e-commerce at Walmart – envisions Wonder as an AI-powered platform.
This platform will not only suggest meal options but will also automate the ordering process directly from Wonder’s kitchens.
Seamless Integration of Content and Commerce
The integration of Tastemade could allow users to order a meal directly while watching a chef prepare it on a Tastemade streaming channel.
Strategic Acquisitions and Funding
Wonder has previously acquired companies such as Blue Apron and Grubhub.
To date, the startup has successfully raised a total of $1.6 billion in funding.
These investments are fueling Wonder’s ambitious plans for growth and innovation in the food delivery sector.
