Font Frenzy - Windows Font Management

The Impact of Fonts on System Performance and a Solution for Management
Consider the number of fonts currently residing on your computer. Furthermore, contemplate how many of these fonts are actually utilized in your daily work. A review of my own font collection revealed numerous downloads acquired for specific projects, subsequently left unused. Many fonts are also installed automatically with software applications or printers.
It's important to recognize that the quantity of fonts installed on a Windows system directly influences the system's startup duration. This is a frequently overlooked aspect of computer performance. Fortunately, a dedicated font management application for Windows is available to streamline the process of managing your fonts.
Introducing Font Frenzy
You can download Font Frenzy from here. Should you require resources for font downloads or installation instructions independent of this application, a previous article on MUO provides helpful guidance.
The application requires no registration or email submission. Upon completing the download and installation, simply follow the on-screen instructions to launch the program.
The initial launch screen will present you with the following interface:
Across the top of the screen, you'll find five buttons: Defrenzy, FrenzySnap, Refrenzy, FrenzyMan and FrenzyInfo. Let's explore the functionality of each.
Before utilizing any of these features, it is crucial to execute a FrenzySnap to safeguard your existing fonts. This creates a backup point for easy restoration.
Functionality Breakdown
Defrenzy removes all user-installed fonts from your computer. Specifically, it will delete any font that did not originally come with your operating system. This includes fonts installed with other programs or those you've added manually. This feature provides a clean slate, allowing you to load only the fonts you require. Remember to create a FrenzySnap beforehand to enable font restoration if needed.
To initiate this process, click the Defrenzy button, then select Defrenzy Now:
A confirmation window will appear, requesting you to close all other applications:
Once all other applications are closed, click Yes. You will then be prompted to specify the font directory; leave this at the default setting and click OK.
You will then be asked to create and name a snapshot. Proceed with this step. Clicking OK will save the snapshot and then remove all non-system fonts. A log file detailing the removed fonts will be available upon completion. The Refrenzy function, which we will discuss shortly, can be used to reinstall fonts.
FrenzySnap creates a snapshot of all fonts currently installed on your machine. Consider this analogous to a system restore point specifically for your fonts. If you remove fonts, you can revert to this backup and restore them. Click the Save Snapshot button to initiate the snapshot process.
You will then be prompted to enter a name for the saved snapshot.
Click OK to save the snapshot. Upon completion, the snapshot will appear in the left pane, allowing you to view available restore points:
To restore from a snapshot, utilize the ReFrenzy option, which we will now detail. This feature reduced my font collection from 198 to 63 fonts. ReFrenzy allows selective restoration of fonts from previously generated Frenzy Snapshots.
Simply highlight the desired snapshot and click Restore. You will be prompted to close any open applications. The application will then request the font directory path – again, leave this at the default and click OK. The fonts from the selected snapshot will be restored, and a completion message will be displayed:
FrenzyMan functions as a conventional font manager, enabling easy addition and removal of fonts from your system.
The buttons on the left panel and font selection on the right provide a straightforward and intuitive interface.
Finally, FrenzyInfo displays application information, including links to the author's website, help resources, and email support.
