Frank Rotman to Step Down at QED Investors, Pursue Startup Ventures
Frank Rotman, a prominent figure in fintech investment and co-founder of QED Investors, announced Friday his intention to transition into a partner emeritus position by the end of the year.
This shift will allow Rotman to dedicate his efforts towards launching his own entrepreneurial endeavors.
A New Direction: Beyond Fintech
Interestingly, Rotman’s future startups may not be focused on financial technology. He revealed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that his initial venture will be within the music industry.
He acknowledged the potential skepticism surrounding this move, but expressed confidence in a business concept he has been developing for years.
Rotman believes this new undertaking has the potential to significantly impact an industry deeply ingrained in our lives.
QED Investors: A Legacy of Success
Rotman co-founded QED Investors in 2007 alongside Nigel Morris and Caribou Honig. The firm has since grown to manage $4 billion in assets.
He was instrumental in QED’s early investment in Credit Karma, marking the first institutional funding for the company.
Furthermore, Rotman played a key role in investments within other successful companies, including GreenSky, Flywire, and SoFi.
Investment Focus and Future Role
QED Investors concentrates its investments on companies developing financial technology solutions during the pre-seed to Series A funding stages.
Rotman, known as “The Fintech Junkie” on X, will officially assume his partner emeritus role on January 1, 2026.
He intends to continue providing advisory support to QED on a part-time basis in the years ahead.
Beyond Startups: A Forthcoming Book
In addition to founding new companies, Rotman plans to author a book. This work will draw upon his extensive experience and insights into the startup and venture capital landscapes.
He emphasized his passion for writing, despite acknowledging the advancements in AI writing tools like ChatGPT and Claude.
QED's Leadership Transition
Nigel Morris, Managing Partner at QED Investors, highlighted their three-decade-long collaboration, which also included time at Capital One.
Morris expressed unwavering confidence in Rotman’s ability to succeed in his next chapter.
Amias Gerety, a current partner at QED Investors, will be promoted to lead the firm’s U.S. investment team.
