Facebook Messenger Audio Calls Coming to Oculus Quest

Facebook Enhances Quest VR Experience with Messenger Audio Calls
Facebook is actively working to streamline the process of connecting with others within virtual reality experiences on its Quest headset.
During today’s Connect conference, the company revealed that Quest users will soon have the capability to initiate and receive audio calls through Messenger.
According to the company, this new functionality is slated for release later in the year.
Addressing Social Interface Challenges
Historically, the Quest headset has faced difficulties in providing a seamless social experience, a notable issue considering its origin from a leading social networking company.
The requirement implemented last year for users to log in with their Facebook IDs, while initially causing some public relations concerns, has allowed for the removal of duplicated social processes.
Streamlined Communication Within VR
Users will be able to directly make calls, send messages, or invite others to join their virtual “party” through the integrated Messenger application within the Quest environment.
Improving VR Meetup Organization
Facebook previously announced Messenger chat support within the Oculus ecosystem earlier this year.
However, the addition of audio calls is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of organizing VR gatherings.
It will also reduce the need for typing within VR, which remains a cumbersome experience for many users.
