Facebook Ads Expanding to Reels & Stories

Facebook Expands Monetization Opportunities for Video Creators
Facebook is broadening the ways video creators can earn revenue on its platform. This development likely indicates an increase in the number of advertisements viewers will encounter.
Lowering the Minimum Video Length for Ads
Yoav Arnstein, Facebook App Monetization Director, announced in a blog post that creators can now integrate in-stream ads into videos as short as one minute. Previously, a minimum video length of three minutes was required.
Typically, these advertisements will be displayed after 30 seconds of playback for shorter videos.
Exploring New Ad Formats
“We are investigating in-stream ad formats designed to boost engagement through incentives or direct product interaction,” Arnstein stated.
The intention is to facilitate increased payouts for content creators while simultaneously ensuring a positive viewing experience for users and providing advertisers with access to targeted audiences.
Facebook is particularly concentrating on monetizing short-form video content and is evaluating the inclusion of sticker-like advertisements within Facebook Stories.
Updated Program Criteria
Facebook shares ad revenue with video creators and is also revising the program’s eligibility requirements.
To qualify, Facebook Pages must now accumulate 600,000 minutes of total viewing time across all videos within the past 60 days. The previous criteria only considered videos three minutes or longer.
Additionally, Pages need to have at least five active or Live videos.
Expanding Live Video Monetization and Stars
Regarding Live videos, Arnstein confirmed that Facebook is removing the invite-only restriction from its in-stream advertising program.
Creators who have achieved 60,000 minutes of Live viewing time in the last 60 days are now eligible to participate.
Furthermore, Facebook will invest $7 million to promote the use of Stars – a virtual currency allowing fans to financially support creators – by offering free Stars to users.
International Rollout of Non-Advertising Products
Other revenue-generating features are also expanding internationally.
Paid online events, initially launched last summer, are currently available in 20 countries and are slated to be introduced in 24 additional countries, including Argentina, Hong Kong, and Ireland, in the coming weeks.
Fan subscriptions are accessible in over 25 countries and will be launched in another 10, namely Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey.
