Evil Geniuses CEO Nicole LaPointe Jameson: A Disruptor to Watch

Esports Growth and the Pursuit of Wider Audiences
The gaming landscape is experiencing rapid expansion, fueled by shifts in entertainment preferences following the COVID-19 pandemic. This growth has created new avenues for esports to connect with broader audiences.
Despite being a relatively young industry, competitive gaming boasts significant investment from leading publishers and organizations. However, establishing a foothold and challenging established practices presents considerable hurdles for emerging leagues and platforms.
Nicole LaPointe Jameson at TechCrunch Disrupt
We are pleased to announce that Nicole LaPointe Jameson, CEO of Evil Geniuses, will be joining us at TechCrunch Disrupt this week. The discussion will center on the business dynamics of competitive gaming and esports’ progress in attracting a larger viewership.
Our conversation with LaPointe Jameson will explore the diverse range of leagues, key stakeholders, and the evolving momentum within the industry.
Evil Geniuses: A Transformation
For two decades, Evil Geniuses has been a recognized name in competitive gaming. Recently, the organization has undergone substantial changes, strategically exiting some leagues and entering new ones.
This revitalization included strengthening its player roster and actively seeking new opportunities within a maturing, yet still developing, esports environment striving for mainstream recognition.
Initially part of Amazon through the Twitch acquisition, Evil Geniuses was acquired by Chicago-based Peak6 Investments in 2019.
LaPointe Jameson's Leadership
Nicole LaPointe Jameson assumed the role of CEO at Evil Geniuses in 2019. While possessing limited prior experience in managing a gaming organization at the time of her appointment, she has since spearheaded efforts to redefine operational standards within the esports sector.
Earlier this year, the company introduced a proprietary esports analytics platform. This platform aggregates and analyzes both professional and amateur gameplay data, providing the industry with enhanced tools for player evaluation and recruitment.
Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives
As one of the few Black women leading an esports organization, LaPointe Jameson is committed to fostering a more diverse team and expanding the audience beyond traditional demographics.
The organization has been instrumental in championing the inclusion of mixed-gender teams in major competitions.
“I don’t care where you come from, your creed, gender, religion, class, past industry, or sexual orientation. If you are the best of the best, you have a home here at [Evil Geniuses],” LaPointe Jameson stated in a recent social media post.
