European Solo GP Robin Capital Closes €15m First Fund

Robin Capital Closes €15 Million Fund for European B2B SaaS Startups
Germany-based Robin Capital, a venture capital fund spearheaded by solo GP Robin Haak, has successfully completed the final closing of its “Robin Fund One” with €13 million in commitments. This is supplemented by a further €2 million in a growth-focused investment vehicle, bringing the fund’s total deployable capital to €15 million.
Fund Focus and Investment Strategy
Established in 2023, Robin Capital concentrates its investments on European B2B midmarket enterprise SaaS startups, with a particular emphasis on companies operating within the DACH region. The fund targets businesses in the pre-seed and seed stages.
The fund’s investment scope encompasses a diverse range of sectors, including HR technology, Artificial Intelligence, fintech solutions, climate tech, DevOps tools, robotics, and industrial technology.
Portfolio and Deployment
Currently, Robin Capital’s portfolio comprises 28 companies. Approximately half of the fund’s capital has already been allocated to promising ventures such as Kombo Dev, based in Germany, and Phacet Labs, located in France.
Fund Origins and Leadership
Robin Capital was founded in December 2022 by Robin Haak, a seasoned entrepreneur and former co-founder of Jobspotting, which was acquired by SmartRecruiters Inc. in 2017. Haak also made an early investment in the German neobank, N26.
Limited Partner Base and Venture Partners
The fund benefits from a network of 70 limited partners. These include general partners from established private equity and venture capital firms, alongside experienced founders and industry operators.
Robin Capital has also enlisted the support of several venture partners, including Renaud Visage, previously CTO of Eventbrite and founder of Slate.VC; Jerome Ternynck, founder of SmartRecruiters and Rypples VC; and Lea Vajnorsky, a co-founder of Wo\men Inc.
Navigating a Challenging Fundraising Environment
According to Haak, raising the fund presented considerable challenges given the prevailing macroeconomic conditions. “The past year and a half represented arguably the most difficult period in venture capital history,” he stated, noting the fund’s lack of institutional or European Investment Fund (EIF) backing.
However, Haak emphasized the strength of the fund’s network as a key advantage. He highlighted that the 70 limited partners are all accomplished professionals, creating a valuable community for portfolio companies.
The Rise of Solo GPs in Europe
Robin Capital is part of a growing trend of solo GPs emerging in Europe. Many of these individuals bring prior experience as fund partners, entrepreneurs, startup operators, or content creators.
While solo GPs often exhibit greater agility in decision-making compared to larger, multipartner funds, they frequently operate with a scope similar to that of angel investors, but with amplified resources. This model can also facilitate quicker access to networks, specialized knowledge, and established audiences, particularly for those with strong personal brands.
Investment in Solo GPs
Hypernova, a $25 million fund of funds, initiated a soft launch in 2022 with the specific goal of investing in solo GPs throughout Europe.
European Solo GP Landscape
Over the past few years, TechCrunch has identified 28 “solo” GP VCs launching in Europe. Some, such as 20VC and Unruly Capital, are expanding and adding partners, transitioning away from the strictly “solo” model.
