Eureka Raises $8M for Data Cloud Security Platform

Eureka Secures $8 Million Seed Funding to Enhance Cloud Data Security

Eureka, a startup headquartered in Tel Aviv, has announced the successful completion of an $8 million seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by YL Ventures, signifying strong confidence in the company’s mission.

Founders and Origins

The company was established by Liat Hayun, serving as CEO, and Asaf Weiss, the CTO. Prior to founding Eureka, Hayun held the position of VP of Product Management at Palo Alto Networks, while Weiss previously directed Engineering efforts at both Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks.

Their combined experience highlighted a critical gap in the market. They observed a growing need for robust tools designed to manage security risks across the increasingly diverse landscape of enterprise data storage.

The Challenge of Modern Data Management

“Data represents a crucial asset for businesses seeking to operate effectively and maintain a competitive edge,” stated Hayun. “However, its proliferation has outpaced the ability of security leaders to effectively control and manage it.”

This lack of control leaves sensitive data vulnerable to breaches, loss, and malicious activities like exfiltration and destruction.

Many organizations are only now fully recognizing the scale of this challenge. This realization is often delayed due to ongoing cloud migrations and the tendency to postpone the transfer of sensitive data to cloud environments.

Eureka’s Solution: Comprehensive Data Insights

Eureka aims to provide businesses with comprehensive visibility into all cloud data stores connected to their systems. The platform facilitates the management of access policies and the identification of configuration issues and policy violations.

While organizations often possess well-defined data protection strategies, consistent implementation across disparate data stores – each with unique settings – presents a significant hurdle.

Automated Policy Translation

“Security leaders are particularly enthusiastic about Eureka’s policy translation engine,” Hayun explained. “This engine automatically converts data protection policies – encompassing privacy, risk, compliance, and security – into platform-specific controls.”

This automated translation simplifies the process of applying consistent security measures across various cloud data stores, a task that is currently complex and varies depending on the specific platform.

Differentiating from Competitors

The Eureka team believes that existing solutions from companies like Imperva and IBM largely attempt to apply traditional, on-premise security approaches to a cloud-native environment.

Conversely, platform-specific solutions often lack the capability to address the broader challenge of managing access across diverse data environments.

YL Ventures’ Perspective

John Brennan, partner at YL Ventures, commented, “Liat and Asaf are pioneering a new era of digital transformation by empowering security leaders with the operational capabilities they need, without hindering business objectives.”

He further added, “They are enabling organizations to utilize any cloud data store while ensuring security teams maintain complete visibility and control over their cloud footprint, with the flexibility to adapt and manage policies as needed.”
