Manage Chrome Tabs Easily - Tab Control Extension

Managing Numerous Tabs in Google Chrome with Tab Menu
Do you find yourself overwhelmed when you have many tabs open in Google Chrome? Regain control and efficiently manage those tabs using the Tab Menu extension.
The Problem of Tab Clutter
A common frustration with Chrome arises when a substantial number of tabs are open simultaneously. This makes identifying the desired tab challenging, often requiring extensive and inefficient “trial and error”. Frequently, favicons may not display correctly, or multiple tabs may share the same favicon, further complicating the process of quickly locating the specific tab you need.
Setting Up Tab Menu
The extension’s options are straightforward to navigate, though some minor adjustments can personalize your experience. The default keyboard shortcut is “Ctrl + m”, which can be expanded by including “Alt” and/or “Shift” in the combination.
You can also customize the appearance of the Toolbar Icon. The default setting is a static icon, but you can choose to display the number of open tabs, either constantly or only when hovering over the icon.
The currently open tabs in the Tab Bar are also conveniently displayed in a Tabs List below the options.
Keep these two points in mind during use:
- The tab count shown on the Toolbar Icon reflects only the tabs within that specific window.
- Using the Keyboard Shortcut will open the Options Page, providing access to the Tabs List for the current window.
The Tabs List is accessible both from the Options Page and the drop-down window, offering flexibility in how you interact with the extension.
Tab Menu in Practice
Let's examine the extension in action. Consider a scenario with twenty-four open tabs in one window and three in another.
A close-up view illustrates the Toolbar Icons and their corresponding tab counts. To consolidate all tabs into a single window, simply click the “Merge Windows” option.
With a single click, all tabs are unified within one window, the tab count is updated, and a scrollbar appears in the Tabs List on the Options Page.
To close a tab from the list, the currently active tab is highlighted in powder blue. Hovering over any entry will lighten its color. A “Close X” will appear at the right end of each hovered entry. Clicking this “X” instantly removes the tab from both lists.
Hovering over an entry also reveals the full title of the corresponding webpage.
Clicking on an entry immediately brings that tab into focus, allowing you to view the webpage or continue your work.
Alternatively, you can search for a tab by typing its title, name, or URL into the text field. The list will dynamically filter to display matching results.
Conclusion
If you frequently struggle with an excessive number of open tabs, the Tab Menu extension offers a valuable solution for regaining control and improving your browsing efficiency.
