Unsold Cybertrucks: Tesla Vehicles Accumulate in Detroit Parking Lot

Cybertruck Sales Decline and Inventory Issues

Recent financial reports indicate a substantial decrease in Tesla’s Cybertruck sales figures over the past several quarters.

This downturn has resulted in a considerable accumulation of unsold units, prompting the company to seek alternative storage solutions.

Unconventional Storage Locations

According to reporting by Crains Detroit Business, Tesla is utilizing a Detroit shopping center as a temporary storage facility for the surplus of Cybertrucks and other vehicles.

This practice is currently in breach of local city ordinances regarding the storage of vehicles in parking areas.

The sight of numerous Cybertrucks occupying the parking lot, formerly used by shoppers visiting now-defunct stores like Bed Bath & Beyond and Torrid, has been described as resembling a futuristic, desolate landscape.

Notably, the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant within the shopping center remains operational.

Proximity to Tesla Showroom and Enforcement

The storage lot is situated close to a recently opened Tesla showroom in West Bloomfield, potentially explaining the overflow of vehicles.

The shopping center’s property owner has been notified of the code violation, although the timeline for enforcement remains uncertain.

Factors Contributing to Underperformance

Despite exceeding the sales of other electric pickup trucks, the Cybertruck has not met the ambitious expectations set by CEO Elon Musk.

Several factors are believed to contribute to this underperformance, including eight safety recalls issued within the first year of production.

Furthermore, the Tesla brand has experienced some devaluation, potentially linked to Elon Musk’s public political statements.
