Disney+ to Release 13 Marvel Movies in IMAX Format

Disney+ to Feature IMAX Expanded Aspect Ratio for Select Marvel Films
On November 12th, Disney+ will integrate IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio into 13 Marvel Cinematic Universe films available on its streaming service.
This updated format will result in reduced black bars during specific scenes for viewers. According to the company, the IMAX Expanded Aspect Ratio is 1.90:1, providing up to 26% more visual information in chosen sequences.
Expanded Visual Experience
The new aspect ratio is designed to be more aligned with the standard 16:9 ratio commonly found on television screens.
The initial launch will include the Disney+ debut of “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings,” alongside a selection of other popular MCU titles.

Disney+ president Michael Paull expressed excitement about enhancing the viewing experience for Marvel fans. He also indicated plans for further integration of IMAX Enhanced features in the future.
Competitive Advantage and Future Enhancements
This implementation of the IMAX format provides Disney+ with a distinct advantage over competing streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Future collaborations are expected to introduce advanced audio and visual technologies to Disney+, potentially including immersive IMAX signature sound powered by DTS. This is anticipated to rival the capabilities of Dolby Atmos.
