Disabling Windows Desktop Gadgets
For users who find the desktop Gadgets in Windows 7, or the Sidebar gadgets present in Windows Vista, unnecessary, a straightforward method exists to deactivate them. This is achieved through a simple adjustment within the system configuration.
New Windows 7 users can access these gadgets through a right-click on the desktop. They can then be positioned anywhere on the desktop as desired.
How to Disable Gadgets in Windows 7
To disable these features, begin by opening the Control Panel. Then, enter "features" into the search field.
Locate and select the option labeled "Turn Windows features on or off". This will open a new window with a list of available features.
Within the Windows Features window, uncheck the box next to "Windows Gadget Platform".
Click the "OK" button to save your changes. A system restart will be required to fully implement the modification.
Following the restart, the gadgets will no longer be accessible from the desktop context menu.
Consequently, no further gadgets will appear on your desktop.
Note: Users of Windows Vista can also disable the Sidebar using a similar process.
