Disable Power Management in Windows 7 & Vista - Guide

Preventing Automatic Sleep Mode in Windows
For desktop computer users, automatic sleep mode can be undesirable. This is particularly true when utilizing Windows 7 or Vista within a virtual machine environment, often for testing and development purposes.
Disabling Power Management in Windows 7
Initiate the process by selecting the power icon. Subsequently, access the "More power options" menu.
Within the "Additional plans" section, choose the "High Performance" plan. Then, click on "Change plan settings":

Adjust all settings to "Never" and then save the modifications.

Disabling Power Management in Vista
Deactivating power management is a straightforward procedure. Begin by navigating to the Start menu and selecting the Control Panel.
Proceed by clicking on the "System and Maintenance" link.

Next, select the "Power Options" link.

Choose the "High Performance" power plan.

Selecting this plan will prevent the system from entering automatic sleep mode. However, the display may still turn off. To disable display timeout as well, click on "Change Plan Settings".
