Earn Delta SkyMiles with Uber: Lyft Partnership Ending

Uber and Delta Air Lines Announce Exclusive Partnership
During CES 2025, Uber revealed a multi-year exclusive agreement with Delta Air Lines. This collaboration will allow SkyMiles members to accumulate miles through Uber rides and Uber Eats deliveries within the United States.
Consequently, Delta’s existing partnership with Lyft will be concluded.
Launch Details and Customer Benefits
The Uber and Delta partnership is scheduled to commence this spring. Uber customers will benefit from enhancements to their travel experience, including “improved Uber pickup and drop off experiences at Delta hubs,” as stated by the company.
Further details regarding these improvements were not disclosed by an Uber representative when questioned.
Lyft's Response and Continued Partnerships
Lyft and Delta initially established their partnership in 2018, which is set to expire on April 7, 2025.
Lyft emphasized its ongoing commitment to expanding its network of partnerships with customer-focused brands. These include Alaska Airlines, Chase, DoorDash, Mastercard, Hilton, Disney, and Bilt.
Lyft encourages users to link their accounts to unlock a wider range of benefits.
Earning Miles with Uber and Delta
Uber customers who link their accounts to a Delta SkyMiles membership will earn rewards based on their spending.
- 1 mile per dollar spent on Uber Eats orders of $40 or more, and on UberX rides to and from the airport.
- 2 miles per dollar spent on Premium Rides, such as Uber Comfort or Uber Black.
- 3 miles per dollar spent on rides reserved in advance.
Potential Connection to Joby Aviation
This new partnership between Uber and Delta could represent a step towards integrating services with Joby Aviation, an eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) startup.
Both Uber and Delta have established separate partnerships with Joby Aviation.
Delta’s collaboration with Joby aims to provide Delta customers with access to Joby’s electric air taxi service, initially planned for launch in New York City.
Uber's Deeper Involvement with Joby
Uber’s relationship with Joby is more extensive. In 2020, Joby acquired Uber Elevate, Uber’s urban air mobility division.
This acquisition included the integration of both companies’ services into their respective applications, creating a more streamlined connection between ground and air transportation.
Furthermore, Joby’s air taxi software, ElevateOS, developed through this partnership, promises on-demand mobility similar to requesting an Uber ride.
Vision of Connected Mobility
In October of last year, the three companies hosted an event in New York City to discuss a shared vision of connected mobility.
While a formal three-way partnership was not announced, the event hinted at future collaboration.
Joby's Progress and Certification
Joby, supported by both Uber and Delta, is currently working to obtain the necessary certifications to operate its electric air taxi service.
The company anticipates launching its service in 2025.
Representatives from Uber, Joby, and Delta refrained from commenting on any progress towards a potential alliance.
