Save Articles for Later: Read Later Lists in Chrome

Enhance Your Chrome Experience with Local Read Later

Do you desire the convenience of a “Read It Later” feature within Google Chrome? The Local Read Later extension now enables you to curate and manage “Read Later Lists” directly in your browser.

Installation Process

Integrating the extension is a swift process, though confirmation of the installation will be required before Local Read Later is fully implemented in Chrome.

Upon completion of the installation, a new “Toolbar Button” will appear, accompanied by a brief message confirming the extension’s successful addition.

Access to the “Options” menu is exclusively through the “Chrome Extensions Page”.

Configuring Extension Options

The Local Read Later extension offers several configuration options. The primary setting significantly impacts the extension’s functionality.

By default, clicking on a “Saved Website” within the drop-down list automatically removes it. This is beneficial if you no longer require the link, but accidental clicks could lead to unintended deletions.

Disabling this option preserves all websites in the list, even after being clicked. Entries can then be removed manually using the “Pages to read (JSON)” text area. Individual entries or the entire list can be cleared with a single click (“Reset All”).

Furthermore, the list can be copied, saved externally, and restored later if needed, providing a valuable backup feature.

Using Local Read Later

To add a website to your reading list, simply use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + Alt + R”. The website will be instantly added.

A small, red blinking box displaying “NEW” will briefly appear, then transform into a modified count indicator.

Observe the “Toolbar Button” and the “Saved Website Count” for a visual representation of your saved items.

Adding another website is just as simple – another press of “Ctrl + Alt + R” will add it to the list.

The webpage will open in a new tab, and the listing will be removed from the drop-down list (unless you have disabled the removal feature).
