Commsor Acquires Meetsy: Expanding Community Building Tools

Commsor Acquires Meetsy to Enhance Community Building and Networking
Mac Reddin, co-founder and CEO of Commsor, secured his company’s $16 million Series A funding through an introduction made on Lunchclub, a platform specializing in 1:1 video introductions. Commsor, positioning itself as an operating system for community managers, directly benefited from the platform’s ability to connect individuals within related industries in a dynamic online environment.
Expanding the Tech Stack with Meetsy
Subsequently, Commsor has acquired Meetsy, a startup focused on facilitating spontaneous and creative conversations within communities. This acquisition aims to bolster Commsor’s capabilities in private networking. Meetsy, a bootstrapped company founded by Bradley Tramer, was purchased for an undisclosed sum.
Commsor's Core Value Proposition
Commsor was launched to provide community managers with the tools to demonstrate the value of their work and justify their budgets. The platform can, for instance, identify key users like, “Here are three Google engineers actively using your community platform,” enabling targeted outreach for potential enterprise contracts.
A Broader Ambition: Inward Community Health
With this acquisition, Commsor’s focus appears to be expanding. A thriving community, valuable to a business, must first be internally robust. Members need opportunities to connect, collaborate, and engage in discussions centered around their shared interests.
Synergies Between Commsor and Meetsy
Meetsy currently serves companies, alumni networks, and venture capital firms seeking to connect their portfolio companies. “If Commsor demonstrates the business value of community, and Meetsy enhances the community itself, the combined effect will be significantly greater,” Reddin explained.
The Continued Relevance of Virtual Interactions
Despite increasing vaccination rates and a potential return to in-person events, virtual interactions are expected to remain important, particularly for distributed teams. This trend has fueled growth in the “super-connector” app market, with Lunchclub valued at $100 million, Workvivo raising $16 million, and Gatheround securing $3.5 million in seed funding.
Beyond "Dumb Networking"
Reddin criticizes the common practice of random networking, often described as “speed dating,” where participants are briefly paired and then rotated. “Every virtual event tool seems to incorporate networking, but it’s often what I’d consider ‘dumb networking’,” he stated.
Meetsy's Refined Matching System
Meetsy offers a sophisticated matching system allowing community managers to categorize members based on self-defined attributes. Match rules can then be established to guide connections, such as pairing fintech VCs with fintech startups for potential investment opportunities or fostering cross-departmental collaboration within companies.
Creating Meaningful Connections
“This approach avoids simply combining random individuals and hoping for a positive outcome,” Reddin emphasized.
Future Integration and Features
Both Commsor and Meetsy will maintain their existing branding. Meetsy users may receive discounts on Commsor or benefit from future bundled offerings. While currently free, Meetsy plans to introduce paid features like white-labeling options and tiered pricing based on community size.
Impact on Community Management
Bradley Tramer, founder of Meetsy, believes the integration will empower community managers to “foster meaningful connections at scale and measure the impact of those connections.”
The Future of Community Engagement
“I envision ‘curated introductions’ becoming a central component of community engagement, alongside events and forums, within the next five years,” Tramer concluded.
